Honest comparison

The official GoHighLevel MCP vs ghlmcp.io

Both connect your AI to GoHighLevel. They do different jobs. Here is the straight version, including where the free one wins.

What the official MCP is

HighLevel ships its own MCP server. Its documentation describes six unified tools covering 625 operations across 40 domains, including contacts, conversations, opportunities, calendars, payments, products, invoices, social planner, blogs, emails and forms. An agency can authorise several sub-accounts and switch between them inside one conversation. It is free with any GoHighLevel plan.

If what you want is your AI reading and updating CRM data, use it. It is free, it is first party, and it covers that ground well. There are also free open source GoHighLevel MCP servers with 269 or more tools that do the same class of work.

Where we are different

The official documentation does not mention building automations. There are no workflow tools, no triggers, no actions, no if/else branches, no audit and no repair. Every CRM tool is now commodity. Automations are not.

We build workflows from a plain sentence, then read the automations already in the account and report the ones that cannot work. Draft workflows everyone assumes are live. Triggers that can never fire. Steps with required fields empty. Branches nothing can reach. On a live insurance account, a TCPA consent gate had inverted, so every consented lead was routed down the no consent path and phone blocked. The builder showed nothing wrong. That is the class of failure the audit catches.

Which one to pick

Reading and updating CRM records: the official MCP, and pay nothing. Building automations, or finding out which of your automations quietly stopped working: us. Many people run both.

Start with the audit

Audits are free on every plan. Connect a sub-account and see what is broken before you decide anything.
